KATHMANDU, Oct 18: Local and international jazz musicians are lining up for the ‘Surya Nepal Jazzmandu 2016’, a week long international jazz music festival that’s taking place from October 20 in Kathmandu.

The Kathmandu based music festival is now in its fourteenth edition and this year’s festival features international musicians from USA, Australia, Germany, France, Cuba and the Netherlands. According to the organizers, the list of international bands/performers includes AfuriKo, Janysett McPherson, Lyrics Born, Ange Takats, Rocketmen and MN Jam
Experiment.

They will be joined by local jazz acts like Cadenza Collective, Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory and Nepal Army Jazz Orchestra as well as Nepali classical musicians like Rabin Lal Shrestha, Gandharvas, Manmohan Thapaliya Sharma and Umesh Pandit.

Throughout October 20 to October 26, the festival will see musical performances taking place in different venues around Kathmandu.

Jazzmandu was initiated in 2002 by Candenza Collective’s Navin Chettri and Chhedup Bomzon of The Jazz Upstairs Bar. Since then the festival has grown into a platform to promote jazz music in Nepal and as an initiative to spread the message of global peace, the organizers have said. And this year’s Jazzmandu has the motto of “Music for Unity, Peace and Compassion”.
