SURKHET, Jan 24: Karnali Provincial government has decided to dissolve the provincial Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation as a part of the agreement among the ruling parties to reduce the number of ministries.

SURKHET, Jan 22: Four people were killed when a Hilux vehicle (01 026 CHA 9213) they were traveling in from Chinchu in Bheri Ganga Municipality of Surkhet to the district headquarters Birendranagar met with an accident on Sunday morning.

SURKHET, Jan 15: Nepali Congress (NC) Vice President and former Home Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka has monitored the development plans implemented in his constituency, Surkhet-1. Khadka, a member of the House of Representatives, monitored the Road Bridge and Mehalkuna Hospital.

However, countless people killed during the armed insurgency and their families are still denied justice. CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the leader who led the armed insurgency, currently leads the government with unprecedented support in parliament. The harrowing tales of the victims are fading from the memories of the general public but those who suffered during the war are still tormented by the wounds that never heal. It is estimated that the war resulted in the deaths of over 17,000 people, many of them facing extreme torture in the extra-judicial killings by both the then Maoist rebels and the state’s security agencies. Among those who were killed include journalists, who were in the forefront of war for carrying out their professional duty. Republica’s Nagendra Upadhyay has compiled a list of some journalists who were tortured to death during the armed conflict with hope that the the contributions made by slain journalists do not go in vain and that they are provided with justice, if not reparation to their family members who are struggling to make ends meet.

SURKHET, Jan 12: Police have arrested two people with illegal drugs. According to the District Police Office, Surkhet, one person was arrested from the Babai check post of Veriganga Municipality and the other was arrested from Ekant Nagar of Birendranagar-10.

SURKHET, Dec 27:  With the formation of a seven-party alliance with CPN-UML at the center, the debate on who will be the Chief Minister of Karnali Province has started. With the new equation at the center, the Nepali Congress, which is currently leading the government in Karnali, will be the main opposition party. Competition has started between CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN-UML for the post of Chief Minister.

SURKHET, Nov 21: Re-voting will be held on Tuesday at the polling station of Simta Multiple Campus of Simta Rural Municipality-6 of Surkhet. Due to the mistake of the election staff, 100 ballot papers of the House of Representatives fell into the boxes of the Provincial Assembly, and the voting in three centers here was canceled.

KATHMANDU, Oct 11: Traders and business people have claimed that the automobile sector is in crisis as the government has halted the import of four-wheeled private vehicles for about six months. According to NADA Automobiles Association of Nepal, the automobile sector has lost billions of rupees due to the ban on the import of vehicles.

SURKHET, Sept 16: The government has been advised to blacklist a construction company which has done nothing about building a bridge over the Bheri River along the Bhurigaun-Telpani road, a short route connecting Karnali with Bardiya, even 10 years after the signing of a contract for the same. The Road Division Office, Surkhet, has terminated the contract and recommended to the government to blacklist the Pappu/Mall JV, which was awarded the contract to build the bridge.

SURKHET, Sept 4: Province Public Service Commission (PSC), Surkhet, has canceled the examination of 22 candidates who wrote their names, phone numbers and roll numbers on their answer sheets to influence the examiners. The provincial PSC has also taken action by debarring one person for two years and 21 people for one year to take the examination.

SURKHET, Sept 2: CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that seat allocation among the ruling alliance parties for the upcoming elections will be decided by Saturday.

SURKHET, August 29: Chief Minister Jeevan Bahadur Shahi of Karnali Province has inducted two new ministers into his Cabinet. Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning, Bindaman Bista and Minister for Water Resources and Energy Development, Ganesh Prasad Singh submitted their resignations on Sunday, leaving two berths in the Cabinet vacant.

SURKHET, August 28: Two ministers of the Karnali provincial government from the CPN (Maoist Center) resigned on Sunday. Minister for Economic Affairs and Planning Bindaman Bista and Minister for Water Resources and Energy Development Ganesh Prasad Singh submitted their resignations to Chief Minister Jeevan Bahadur Shahi.

SURKHET, August 26: The CPN (Maoist Center) has recalled two ministers from the Karnali provincial government.

SURKHET, August 22: If there were no park and forest area along the Kohalpur-Surkhet transmission line, 132 kV electricity would have reached Karnali by September 15. Even though there is an agreement to complete it in two years, it is not known how many more years it will take for the 132 kV transmission line to enter Karnali.

SURKHET, July 28: Khadka Bahadur Khatri of Gurvakot Municipality-7 of Surkhet had to go to the headquarters Birendranagar to buy seeds as early as 10 years ago.
