Nepal reach semi-finals of Youth Asia Cup

Nepal U-19 has reached the semi-finals of ongoing Youth Asia Cup at Malaysia after defending champions India was defeated by Bangladesh. Bangladesh won all the group matches and sits on top of the table with six points followed by Nepal with four points. Nepal defeated India by 19 runs on Sunday and Malaysia by eight wickets on Tuesday in a rain-curtailed match. Nepal will play Afghanistan on November 17. Similarly, Bangladesh will take on Pakistan on November 16.

Nepal-Philippines match ends with a draw

The AFC Asian Cup 2019 Qualifiers match between Nepal and Philippines ended with a draw on Tuesday. Despite numerous attempts, both sides struggled to score a goal in the game played at Anfa Complex, Satdobato.

Young Nepalese scientist wins int’l award

Dr. Rojeet Shrestha, 31, a young Nepalese scientist was recently awarded IFCC Young Investigator Award from International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC) in Durban, South Africa. The award is one of the renowned awards in the field of laboratory medicine given to one young scientist in every three years for demonstrating outstanding scientific performance selected from worldwide. Dr. Shrestha is associated with Hokkaido University with the major interest in lipids and lipoproteins research and clinical mass spectrometry.

PM wants security bodies to be extra vigilant

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has stressed that the security bodies need to be extra vigilant to prevent attacks on election candidates and campaigns.  "The government will not lag behind bringing to book any person or group challenging election-related issues including the healthy competition among the political parties and the rights of the people to vote in fear-free environment, among others." 
 

Murderers' of FCAN Chairman Gauchan arrested

Police have arrested those involved in the murder of Sharad Kumar Gauchan, chairman of Federation of Contractors’ Association of Nepal (FCAN), 35 days after the incident took place. The police are making them public at the Police Club at 3 pm today, said Metropolitan Police Chief Jaya Bahadur Chand.

Vehicle carrying leftist alliance candidates ambushed in Sankhuwasabha

A vehicle carrying candidates of leftist alliance from Dhupu to Barabise bazaar of Sankhuwasabha for election publicity was ambushed at Sabhapokhari rural municipality this morning. A hand bomb was hurled at the vehicle carrying CPN (UML) candidates Rajendra Prasad Gautam, CPN (Maoist Centre), Purna Prasad Rai, and Chetnath Sharma of the district. No human casualty was reported in the incident.  Meanwhile, CPN-UML’s Bhojpur candidate Sherdhan Rai was ambushed by 14 cadres of CPN-Maoist (Revolutionary) leader Biplav at 10 am today. Rai’s vehicle was ambushed at Gumba of Tyamkemaiyu Rural Municipality-7, Bhojpur. The police fired 21 rounds at the cadres. Rai’s personal security officer was injured in the incident.
