Malpi, Innovative into semis

KATHMANDU, Nov 13: Malpi School and Innovative School secured their semifinal berths by defeating Little Angels’ (LA) School and Reliance School respectively in girls’ basketball of the ongoing 24th Gyan Carnival on Monday. 

In the matches played on Gyanodaya School premises in Sanepa, Lalitpur, Malpi overcame LA 24-12 while Innovative claimed the last four spot as Group A winner beating Reliance 38-30. 

Despite losing, Reliance also made it to the semifinals as group runner-up. 

Similarly, host Gyanodaya School saw off Sudesha School 30-5 for a last four spot.

In boys’ basketball, Himalaya International Model Higher Secondary School (HIMS) and Bhanubhakta Memorial Higher Secondary School also paved their ways into the semifinals. 

HIMS saw off Gyan Niketan 58-38 while Bhanu Bhakta narrowly beat Kavya School 19-15. 

FOOTBALL
Likewise, in boys’ football, Gyanodaya reached the semifinals by overcoming Innovative 6-0. Kavya and Malpi also reached the last four. Kavya beat Gyan Niketan 5-0 and Malpi thrashed Shreekul Bidhyalaya 5-0. 

HEMS to organize basketball tournament
HEMS School is organizing the 1st HEMS Cup 3-on-3 basketball tournament from Tuesday. A total of 56 schools are participating in the tournament that will feature both girls’ and boys’ events, informed SK Gautam, Academic Director of HEMS School at a press meet on Monday. 

The tournament to be held in league-cum knockout format will see 20 teams each in senior and junior boys’ categories. 

Likewise, 16 teams will participate in senior girls’ category. The teams will be divided into four groups. The three-day tournament will be played at HEMS’ court, Ratopul.
