Three parties including NC and UML ask Sudurpaschim CM Sodari to step down

KATHMANDU, July 13: Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and Nagarik Unmukti Party (NUP) have jointly asked Chief Minister of Sudurpaschim Province Dirga Bahadur Sodari to resign from his position.

Organizing a press conference in Dhangadi on Saturday, the leaders of the parliamentary party of these parties demanded CM Sodari to resign as he is already in minority with change in the coalition in the center.

On the occasion, Kamal Bahadur Shah, a leader of NC Parliamentary Party, stated that the resignation of Sodari will pave the way for the formation of a new government and bring a new budget. “It is not appropriate for the CM to hold onto the position even after falling in the minority,” he said.

Similarly, Santosh Thapa Sharma, Deputy PP leader of the UML, and Ghanshyam Chaudhari, NUP PP leader, also urged CM Sodari to resign without further delay.

Following the change in the political landscape at the federal level, UML withdrew its support to CM Sodari on July 7. He is in minority after the UML withdrew its support to the government and even recalled its ministers from the provincial government. 

The withdrawal of the support by the UML has created uncertainty about the preparation to unveil the annual budget for the upcoming Fiscal Year (FY) 2024/2025 will pass or not. The discussion on the budget has not even started in the Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly.
