Singer Jagat Mardan Thapa no more

Singer and writer Jagat Mardan Thapa died while undergoing medical treatment at Norvik Hospital in the capital at 10 am Monday. He was infected with Covid-19 a month ago, had recovered and returned to normal life. 

He, however, had been suffering from lung disease for long, and after the complications he was put on a ventilator support.

“Heartfelt condolences, prayers and Hardik Shradhanjali on the sad passing of my friend Jagat Mardan Thapa, a lyricist, composer and singer. He was a simple, sincere and honest individual. May he find peace,” Yadav Kharel, a  veteran director, producer and writer wrote on his social media page.

Born in Baramjhiya, Saptari, Thapa came to Kathmandu in 1951 at the age of 16. In 1961, he recorded his first song 'Maya Lukai Lukdaina' in Kolkata, India. He was continuously active in the field of Nepali arts and music. 

In 1964, he published a collection of short stories Patajhar Ra Palanski Phool and Dilko Awaj, a collection of songs. He also shared the same singing space with Indian singer Usha Mangeshkar in 'Ma Patjhar Timi Madhumas' in the 70s.
