NEPSE plunges 18.76 points; daily turnover slips down to Rs 4.05 billion

KATHMANDU, June 18: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Tuesday lost 18.76 points to close at 2,076.49 points.

The market opened at 2,095.25 points and plunged to 2,081.86 points in the first 22 minutes of trading. The market recovered around 11 points in the next few minutes before the index again went into a successive decline to hit the day’s low at 2,074.17 points before the last one minute of trading. The market recovered around two points before it closed for the day.  

The sensitive index that measures the performance of ‘A’ class companies declined by 3.72 points. The daily turnover decreased to Rs 4.05 billion from Rs 5.47 billion on Sunday. The market remained closed on Monday with the government declaring a public holiday to mark Eid, a festival of the Muslim community.  

All the 13 groups had their market indices decline on the day. Life insurance lost the highest of 100.58 points.  

Among individual companies, 40 were recorded as gainers whereas 198 were the losers.

Barun Hydropower Co Ltd had the largest turnover of its shares worth Rs 112.79 million. Manakamana Smart Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited was topmost loser, while Samaj Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited topped the gainers’ lists.
