Kathmandu,

Former Punjab Congress president, comedian and cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu has been sentenced to one year in jail by a high court in India in a 34-year-old road incident.

According to the court order, Sidhu will have to go to jail today. Preparations are underway to send him to Patiala Jail. The court has also reviewed the verdict of four years ago comprising Judges AM Khanwilker and Sanjay Kishan Kaul, when the court had reduced Sidhu’s sentence from three years imprisonment with INR 1,000.

According to the prosecution, Sidhu and his friend Rupinder Sandhu were in a vehicle and had an argument with one Gurnam Singh. Police claimed that Singh was beaten up by Sidhu, who managed to get away. Later, the victim was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead.

According to Indian media, Sidhu will be arrested today. The High Court has not offered any relief in the case of Sidhu's surrender and arrest. Sidhu has responded that he respects the law through tweets.
