KATHMANDU, Aug 13: Members of the House of Representatives have urged the Government of Nepal to take a stand against the inhumane treatment of minority Hindu and Buddhist communities in Bangladesh.

During Tuesday's House session, UML MP Kiran Kumar Sah said that there is a need for Nepal to alert Bangladesh through diplomatic channels. He pointed out that extremist groups in Bangladesh, with apparent tacit support, continue to commit atrocities against these religious minorities. "Given that Nepal is the birthplace of both Hinduism and Buddhism, it is imperative that we raise this issue through diplomatic channels," Sah said.

Sah also warned that Nepalis could be at risk of similar religious extremism in the future and urged the government to take proactive measures to prevent any potential harassment of Hindu and Buddhist communities in Bangladesh.

Echoing these concerns, Nepali Congress MP Arjun Nar Singha KC expressed disappointment over Nepal's silence on the matter. "I condemn the brutal attacks on minority Hindus and Buddhists in Bangladesh and regret that our government has not spoken out against it," he said, adding that Nepal should learn from the incidents in Bangladesh and take necessary actions.
