'The government obstinate about not forming a probe committee and preventing parliament from functioning'

KATHMANDU, May 11: Following a meeting of office bearers and former office bearers at Speaker Sher Bahadur Deuba's residence on Saturday, the Nepali Congress (NC) strongly criticized the attitude of Speaker Devraj Ghimire and the government. They deemed the role of the government and Speaker during Friday's House of Representatives meeting as highly inappropriate.

Gagan Thapa, the General Secretary of the NC, expressed disappointment, stating that despite the NC's willingness to be flexible and resolve parliamentary deadlock while addressing their concerns, the government's behavior was unacceptable. He emphasized the need for the Speaker to display greater sensitivity to parliamentary impasses, rather than sidelining the opposition party.

While highlighting the NC's efforts to be accommodating, Thapa said, "We have long sought the Home Minister's address. However, when we requested his speech, there were attempts to hastily include it in the agenda."

Consequently, the NC concluded that the government and Speaker's actions indicated a reluctance to form a probe committee and allow parliamentary proceedings. Thapa emphasized, "Today's meeting concluded that regardless of circumstances, the government remains obstinate about not forming a probe committee and preventing the parliament from functioning."
