KATHMANDU, May 30: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has requested the operators and managers of public toilets not to charge users for their services.

A notification issued by the KMC said that public toilets, which are constructed and maintained for the benefit of the public, should not impose any fees on users. The metropolis is preparing to fully implement this system after 15 days.

Currently, individuals using public toilets in the Kathmandu valley are  required to pay a fee ranging from 5 to 10 rupees.

KMC ensures the provision of manpower, materials, and sanitation services necessary for the operation of these free public toilets.

Furthermore, operators and managers of public toilets operating on a fee basis have been instructed to submit a written proposal to the Public Private Partnership Unit of the KMC within 15 days from May 30. After that, all  public toilets in the city are expected to operate free of charge.

The KMC has warned of legal consequences if any fees are collected for using public toilets.
