In search for opportunities

Though 27- year-old Sumandas Banya has been married for less than two years, he can feel his responsibilities building. To him, life isn’t just about living. Sumandas says life has different stages -- as a gleeful child, as a carefree student, as an ignorant teenager, being married and then the struggling part, where one must work vigorously to sustain their family.

He had moved to Kathmandu from Rajbiraj, Saptari in 1961 BS to complete his studies. He currently lives with his wife and mother. He worked as a computer teacher for about five years. But, he left the job and opened a shop later as teaching paid him a meager Rs 10,000 per month, which was not enough to pay for a life in Kathmandu.

He says income from the shop is barely enough to sustain his three-member family. With less income and a family to look after, Sumandas says he might try to get a government if possible or go abroad in search of better employment opportunities.
