Beauty with a big heart
KATHMANDU, Feb11: Samiksha Pokharel is an aspiring model who was unaware of her talent until recently. While she was posing at a photo shoot for a beauty parlor, Gunu Tamrakar pointed out that she had a photogenic face and suggested her to pursue modeling as a career.
The 19-year-old recently shared the screen with eminent actors Sunil Thapa, Karma and Menuka Pradhan in ‘Sher Bahadur’. “Though mine was a small role in the suspense thriller, I got to learn many invaluable lessons from the senior actors,” she said.
“My journey began ever since Tamrakar suggested me that I should join modeling. Since then, I’ve been honing my skills and trying to establish myself in the glamour world,” said Pokharel. She has also been featured in half a dozen music videos like ‘Mero Yo Man Mandir’, ‘Love Is So Beautiful’, ‘Dubna Maan Lagne’ and many more.
Having done ample number of photo shoots for several Nepali magazines, for Pokharel modeling and acting is not just about having a pretty face. She believes that one should also have proper skills and ethics to become a successful artist. “I abhor people who think that women can only be used as glamour dolls in movies and in the modeling field. We, the new generation, need to work hard and change such mentality,” she said.
She regards herself lucky for not having to struggle as an artist like other newcomers. Pokharel is currently busy shooting music videos and she aspires to play in the silver screen if good scripts come by.
