Australian ambassador Volk pays farewell call on National Assembly Chairperson Dahal

KATHMANDU, Aug 5: The ambassador of Australia to Nepal, Felicity Volk, has held a farewell meeting with Narayan Prasad Dahal, the chairperson of the National Assembly. 

Volk, who is scheduled to return home, completing her three and a half years tenure as ambassador, visited Dahal's office at Singha Durbar on Monday.

During the meeting, Chairperson Dahal praised Ambassador Volk for her role in strengthening the bilateral relations between Nepal and Australia.

Stating that the good relations between Nepal and Australia extend beyond the diplomatic relations to the local level, Dahal said that the people-to-people relations will bring the two countries closer socially, culturally and emotionally.

Stating that there have been parliamentary visits between the two countries before, Dahal said that the visit of the parliamentary delegation would facilitate exchanging the parliamentary practices, processes and experiences between the two countries. Dahal also said that the Federal Parliament of Nepal has formed a Nepal-Australia Parliamentary Friendship Group.

In the meeting, Ambassador Volk said that although she will no longer serve as the ambassador, she will always remain as Nepal's goodwill ambassador due to the warm love that she experienced during her stay in Nepal.

Stating that Australia and Nepal have assisted each other during disasters such as the Covid-19 pandemic and earthquakes, she said that Australia will continue to provide humanitarian as well as development aid to Nepal.

Stating that she was happy to learn that the political parties in Nepal had reached a long-awaited agreement on transitional justice, she said that the agreement between the parties will help complete the ongoing peace process in the country.
