Achieving SDGs underscored in Asian Youth Assembly

KATHMANDU, Aug 12: Participants of Global Youth Parliament, comprising representatives from several countries, have emphasized the role of youth in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

Inaugurating the conference, speaker of the House of Representatives Krishna Bahadur Mahara urged the participants to prepare to lead the campaign of implementing the SDGs in their respective countries.

“The role of youths becomes crucial in achieving the goals,” said Mahara, in the inaugural function held at Rashtriya Sabhagriha, Kathmandu on Saturday.

The event was organized by Global Youth Parliament, in coordination with Youth Parliament Nepal (YPN) and South Asian Dialogue on Ecological Democracy (SADED).

The main agenda of the two-day assembly is to re-energize the integration of Asian youths for climate change as envisioned by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). 

According to Diwakar Aryal, founder, and president of Global Youth Parliament, “The assembly is focused on the development of the youths, not only in Nepal but also in all over Asia.” 

Including Mahara, Amjad Hussian B. Sail -- Secretary General of SAARC, Mazhar Javed, Ambassador of Pakistan -- Ahmad Phadil Ismail, Ambassador of Malaysia -- Thiri Pyanchi U Tun Nay Lin, Ambassador of Myanmar --Radoslaw Rokita, and other distinguished personnel attended the event.

The assembly is scheduled to conclude on Sunday.
