Works of local levels should be people-oriented, transparent and accountable to citizens: PM Deuba

KATHMANDU, Dec 17: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the works of local levels should be people-oriented, transparent and accountable to citizens. Prime Minister Deuba argued that the activities of the local level should be accountable to the citizens as they work closely to the people on the ground.

Speaking at a program held in Lalitpur on Saturday on the occasion of the 104th Foundation Day of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Prime Minister Deuba mentioned that since the Constitution of Nepal has given important rights and responsibilities to the local level as a pillar of development, construction and public service, they should work accordingly. 

Prime Minister Deuba also praised Lalitpur Metropolis for advancing its work in order to make Nepal and Nepali people recognized in other countries of the world as per the expectations of the people. He also emphasized that Lalitpur Metropolitan City should be developed as a culturally smart city. Prime Minister Deuba said that Lalitpur Metropolitan City has advanced itself as a model metropolis.

He said, “I would like to express my heartiest congratulations and best wishes to the residents and people's representatives on the joyous occasion of entering the 104th year of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, the city of religious, cultural and historical arts. I am happy to know that this ancient and original city of the valley has been organized and has progressed with various plans to make the life of the citizens comfortable and quality,” he said.

Deuba said that the Constitution of Nepal has provided important rights and responsibilities to the local level as a pillar of development, construction and service. “As the government is close to the citizens, the functioning of the local level should be people-oriented, transparent and results-oriented, and citizens should be accountable. I believe that the people's representatives of Lalitpur Metropolitan City will advance the services of the citizens in a responsible manner as this metropolis will work as a model metropolis according to the expectations of the citizens,” he further said. 

On that occasion, Prime Minister Deuba said that the work of protecting and enhancing the assets of Lalitpur Metropolitan City is being done to make the citizens happy and asked them to be more active by continuing it. He said that while developing the physical infrastructure, the people's representatives at the local level should work together to make the life of the citizens easier.
