Woman suspected to have been infected by coronavirus dies in Dhulikhel

KAVRE, May 16: A woman who was suspected to have been infected by coronavirus has died while undergoing treatment at Dhulikhel hospital, Kavrepalanchowk.

The 29-year-old woman hailing from Bahrabise of Sindhupalchowk was admitted to Dhulikhel hospital after she complained of breathing difficulties. She breathed her last during treatment on Thursday.

Her throat swab was sent to the National Public Health Laboratory, Teku for COVID-19 testing through the PCR method. However, the PCR test report is still awaited. 

The woman had given birth to a baby 10 days ago at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, Kathmandu. She complained of breathing difficulties after returning home.

The hospital administration has maintained high alert on the hospital premises after the coronavirus suspected patient died. The hospital premises have been sealed off following the incident.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) said that the PCR testing of the suspected COVID-19 patient is underway. 

"A woman from Sindhupalchowk died at Dhulikhel Hospital, recently. We came to know that she was admitted to the hospital after complaining of breathing difficulties. We can officially say somethig once we collect required information regarding the case. The PCR testing result has yet to be produced," Dr Bikash Devkota, the spokesperson for the MoHP, said.  Devkota said that they will release the official infomation about the death once they have the test reports.
