Two arrested with eight automatic weapons

JUMLA, Dec 27: The police involved in an extensive search for 21 statues stolen from Chandannath Baba's temple on November 26 came across two individuals in possession with eight hi-end automatic weapons. 

The police in search of the statue of Hindu God Dattatreya including 21 statues found eight automatic weapons from various locations of the district on Sunday. 

The weapons were made public in the presence of Acting Chief District Officer, Bishnu Prasad Neupane, chief investigation officer, Jivan Khadka, lawyer Dil Bahadur Mahat and Jumla based journalists on Monday. 

The police arrested Vedan Raj Thapa and his brother, Kamal Raj Thapa of Gajryangkot – 8, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Guru Bishnu Kafle, of District Police Office, Jumla. 

Vedan Raj was arrested from Kathmandu based on a tip-off while Kamal Raj was arrested from Nepalgunj. 

The police confiscated two BN 6465 – 2967 sub automatic SLR, Indian Army Code no 1000 C Plus LST 1.65 MN automatic pistol, another automatic pistol, a five-bullet revolver, six-bullet revolver, two pistols, seven detonators among magazines and bullets. Police suspect the weapons could have been stolen during the armed insurgency. RSS
