Two arrested with 147 grams of brown sugar

JHAPA, Sept 28: Police have arrested two youths from Birtamod Municipality of Jhapa in possession of a large quantity of brown sugar and cash.

A joint police team deployed from District Police Office Jhapa, Drug Control Bureau Kankadvitta and Area Police Office, Anarmani, arrested Tekraj Shah of Kankai Municipality-9 and Vikas Mardi, 24, of the same place with 147 grams of brown sugar and Rs 269,300 in cash.

Initially, the police team had found 0.5 mg of brown sugar from Shah and four grams and 5 mg from Mardi. However, after the interrogation, the police found additional 142 grams 37 milligrams of brown sugar, one digital weighing machine, Rs 269,300 in cash, one Canon DSLR camera and an FZ motorcycle (1-01-012P 9545), according to spokesperson and Deputy Superintendent of Police, Rakesh Thapa.

The arrestees have been remanded into custody at Area Police Office, Anarmani, for further investigation and the legal process will be taken forward with the permission of the Jhapa District Court.
