Six ANFA academy players buried in landslide in Makwanpur

KATHMANDU, Sept 28: A landslide induced by the incessant rainfall since Friday night, has buried six academy-level players staying in a hostel in Makwanpur district on Saturday noon. As per police reports, six of the 40 academy players staying at a hostel in Batsala Secondary School, Indra Sarovar Rural Municipality-3, were buried by a sudden landslide while trying to evade another landslide during evacuation.  

According to the Area Police Office (APO), Bhimphedi, in Makwanpur, the six ill-fated All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) academy players of Under-16 age group have been identified as Aditya Balami from Sarlahi, Priyatna Acharya from Kathmandu, Anupam Ghalan, Symond Yonjon and Diwas Baniya from Makwanpur, and Bikal Regmi from Bara.   

Chief of the APO, Bhimphedi, Inspector Lalita Dhakal informed Republica that a rescue team consisting of five police personnel led by Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Bhojraj Neupane from the Police Post, Khanikot, reached the incident site at 12:50 pm and are still looking for the buried individuals. According to Inspector Dhakal, she is leading another team of nine police personnel from the APO, Bhimphedi, for additional rescue efforts. “The remaining 34 students from the hostel have been moved to a safe site,” she told Republica.
