Shrestha wins Surya Nepal Eastern Open

DHARAN, Dec 30: Nepal’s number one Shiva Ram Shrestha has won the Surya Nepal Eastern Open at the par-70 Nirvana Country Club Health and Golf Resort in Dharan on Friday.

Shrestha scored two-under 68 for a total of seven-under 203 to register one-shot victory over amateur duo Sukra Bahadur Rai and Tanka Bahadur Karki. 

Rai played one-under 69, and Karki scored one-over 71 for a total of six-under 204. With the win, Shrestha pocketed Rs 115,000.

Rai won the amateur trophy on count back as his score for last 36 holes was at four-under compared to Karki’s two-under.

As both amateurs couldn’t bag the prize, Sanjay Lama (72) and Jayaram Shrestha (68) shared the second prize at one-under 209. They got Rs 63,500 each.

Shiva Kumar Majhi finished fourth among the professionals with the total score of one-over 211. He scored two-over 72 on Friday and got 42,000.

Sabin Sapkota (69) and Bhuwan Nagarkoti (73) were tied fifth at two-over 212 and received Rs 34,500 each. Dhana Bahadur Thapa (70) was seventh at three-over 213 and got Rs 29,000. Deepak Magar (73) was eighth with four-over 214 and received Rs 26,000.

Surya Prasad Sharma, Deoraj Pakhrin and Suman Rai were tied ninth at five-over 215 and got Rs 22,000 each.

Pro-am event is scheduled for Saturday in which 15 professionals and 45 amateurs are scheduled to take part.
