SIMKOT, Jan 19: Simkot Rural Municipality in Humla district has decided to resume schools from January 18. The schools were closed for a long time due to Covid-19 pandemic.

A meeting of the education committee of the rural municipality held on Sunday took a decision to this effect.  There are a total 23 community schools and 28 private schools.

Officiating chief administrative officer at the rural municipality Ujir Rokaya informed that the schools, however, have to follow the health and safety protocol including social distancing. Both the community and private schools will be provided with sanitizers. However, students themselves will have to bear the cost of a mask.

Earlier, the classes were resumed in October. However, they were closed a week later after the students at Mahabauddha Secondary School of neighbouring local government tested positive for the COVID-19.

In the district, the new academic year begins from the first week of Falgun (mid-February) and concludes in Mangsir(Mid-November). After the annual examination in Mangsir, the schools are closed for three months each other.

Other local governments in the district are, however, still afraid to resume schools in the district in view of the possible spread of COVID-19.

A total of 91 persons are infected with coronavirus in the district so far. Of them, 90 people have already recovered successfully, according to Information Officer at District Hospital, Bhakti Phadera.
