KATHMANDU, Aug 7: Resorts built on public land at Chisapani, the meeting point of Kathmandu, Sindhupalchowk and Nuwakot districts after last year's earthquake have been demolished.

The land is owned by the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. The illegally constructed hotels were pulled down with the help of dozers, the park authorities said.

Earlier in late April, the park administration had issued a notice, asking the resort owners to vacate the infrastructure within the next 35 days.

The resort owners on May 15 moved the Patan Appellate Court, defending the notice. The court on May 25 issued an interim order in the name of the park administration to stay its decision to dismantle the resorts.

The park administration on June 19 reached the Supreme Court, seeking the annulment of the Appellate Court's decision. The SC issued its verdict in favour of the park.

Hotel Darpan, Chisapani Mountain View, Golden Sunrise View, Hotel Galaxy, Annapurna Hotel, Hotel Paradise and Hotel BSS and other three hut resorts constructed encroaching in some 150 ropani of land were demolished, according to park Chief Kamal Jung Kunwar. RSS
