Police rescue 26 women, four children trafficked to different countries in a month

KATHMANDU, Feb 18: Cases of human trafficking including foreign employment frauds are on the rise in the country. Human trafficking is taking place despite police surveillance and awareness campaigns.

According to the Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau of the Nepal Police, a total of 30 people, who were trafficked to different countries, were rescued from January 15 to February 12. 

Out of them, 15 women and four children were rescued from India, six women from Kuwait, two women from Oman, one woman from Iraq, and two women from Nepal itself, said Director of Bureau, Senior Superintendent of Police, Jeevan Kumar Shrestha.

They were found to be sent to different countries making fake documents after misusing the visit visa in the name of foreign employment. 

SSP Shrestha further said a police team of Bureau located at Tribhuvan International Airport sent back 250 people, who were going to foreign countries or found to be at high risk of human trafficking. 

Police have arrested four persons on the charge of their involvement in human trafficking during the period. Necessary investigation is currently underway, according to the Bureau.
