Nepse inches up 5.88 points as daily turnover jumps to Rs 1.60 billion on Sunday

KATHMANDU, May 21: Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) on Sunday increased marginally by 5.88 points to close at 1,883.20 points.

The secondary market opened at 1,877.32 points and went to the day’s high at 1,903.06 points in the first one hour of the trading. The index however fell to as low as 1,874.72 points in the last one hour before the market closed for the day.

In the intraday trading, 93 listed companies added to their market prices, while 115 companies registered as losers. The sensitive index that measures the performance of the blue chips companies also inclined 0.14 points.

Manufacturing and processing, development bank, hydropower and finance, among the 13 groups were losers. Out of nine gainers, non-life insurance gained the biggest of 245.36 points in its index.  

The daily turnover amount increased to Rs 1.60 billion, up from Rs 1.47 billion on Thursday.  The market has started taking upward pace since Wednesday after banks attempted to lower their interest rates, leading to a notable transaction volume over the period.

Among individual companies, Shivam Cements had the biggest transactions of its shares worth Rs 61.76 million. Rastriya Beema Company Limited was registered as the topmost gainer while Adarsha Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited lost the highest percent of its market price.
