Nepali Congress gears up for Mahasamiti meeting

KATHMANDU, Oct 30 : The Nepali Congress (NC) has intensified preparations for its Mahasamiti meeting to be held next month in the capital, the party's highest policy making body.

A meeting held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Mahasamiti management commitee coordinator Sabuj Baniya decided to form five sub-committees in a bid to expedite preparations for the Mahasamiti meeting. The major opposition is holding its Mahasamiti meeting from November 21 to 25 at Bhrikutimandap in the capital, nearly a year after the party faced humiliating defeat in the 2017 elections. The meeting is expected to chart out the future course of the party and lay a ground for choosing the NC's fresh leadership.

According to a press release issued by the NC headquarters on Tuesday, the food management sub-committee is headed by Nepali Congress Bhaktapur district coordinator Uddhab Silwal and the stage arrangement and publicity management sub-committee is headed by NC's Kathmandu district tresurer Govinda Pudasaini.

Similarly, voultneer management sub-comittee is headed by NC's Lalitpur district secretary Bhimsen Ghimire, local mangement secretariat sub-committee is headed by NC's Bhaktapur district secretary Nishan Dhungel. Meanwhile, NC's Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur presidents are assigned to arrange financial resources for the Mahasamiti meeting.

A recent meeting of the NC's central committee finalized the date for the meeting as proposed by the party’s President Sher Bahadur Deuba. Nepali Congress has already formed an 11 member Statute Amendment Drafting Committee to restructure the party's structures in line with the federal setup. Thousands of Nepali Congress leaders and cadres will be attending the Mahasamiti meeting.
