Nepal sends diplomatic note to India on Darchula incident

KATHMANDU, Sept 7:  The government has sent a diplomatic note to India regarding the disappearance of Jaya Singh Dhami of Darchula in the Mahakali River. Dhami, a Nepali national went missing after falling into the Mahakali River on July 30 when the SSB personnel cut the cable bridge, also known as Tuin. 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) sent a diplomatic note to India after a committee formed by the government to probe the matter found the involvement of SSB personnel and recommended the government to initiate diplomatic efforts to punish the guilty and provide justice to Dhami’s family.

“We have already sent a diplomatic note to India on the issue. We are waiting for the response from the Indian side,” said a senior foreign ministry official. He said that based on the response from the Indian side, further diplomatic process would be taken. 

The government has been widely criticized for remaining silent for a long time even though Nepali youth had lost his life as a result of the inhumane act of SSB personnel. The investigation committee had submitted its report last Tuesday. 

The government has also sent a separate diplomatic note regarding unauthorized flights of Indian helicopters over the Darchula headquarters. India had earlier not allowed drones to fly over the Mahakali River to search for the missing youth.
