Nepal's COVID-19 death toll climbs to 183 with eight fatalities in past 24 hours

KATHMANDU, Aug 27: The COVID-19 death toll in Nepal has risen to 183 on Thursday, with eight fatalities in various parts of the country in the past 24 hours.

According to the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Jageshwar Gautam, five females and three males succumbed to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

One woman each from Lalitpur (aged 65), Bara (aged 23), Kaski (aged 32), Rupandehi (aged 70) and Banke (aged 70), died of coronavirus.

Likewise, one man each from Kathmandu (aged 48) and Parsa (62) and Kapilvastu (aged 50) died of coronavirus.

"With this, the number of people dying of COVID-19 has climbed to 183," Health Ministry Spokesperson Gautam said.

The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) on Thursday afternoon reported a record daily jump of 1,111 coronavirus infections. With this, the country's COVID-19 national tally reached 35,529 as cases surged across the country including the Kathmandu Valley. 1,111 persons tested positive for coronavirus through 12,629 PCR tests carried out at various laboratories in the past 24 hours across the country. Of the newly-infected, 777 are males and 334 are females.

This is the highest single-day spike in the cases of coronavirus in Nepal after the country reported the first coronavirus case in late January this year. The Kathmandu Valley alone witnessed 377 new cases of coronavirus, the highest single-day spike in the Valley.

According to Spokesperson Gautam, 569 cases of recovery were recorded in various parts of the country in the past 24 hours, taking Nepal's recovery tally to 20,073. There are currently 15,273 active cases of coronavirus in Nepal.

The spokesperson said that eight coronavirus-related deaths were recorded in various parts of the country in the past 24 hours, taking the COVID-19 death toll to 183. Spokesperson Gautam also said that the government has expanded the scope of COVID-19 testing keeping in mind the rising cases of coronavirus.

"Various government agencies are working round-the-clock to contain the novel coronavirus disease. So, let's help the government's efforts for the same," he said.
