KATHMANDU, Feb 25: The district presidents of the Nepali Congress have called for holding a Mahasamiti meeting yet again, complaining that the statute endorsed by the highest policy making body was reversed.

A meeting of the NC district presidents, who gathered in the Kathmandu Valley today, reached this conclusion, arguing that some provisions of the party statute were reversed by the Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting even though it was already endorsed by the highest policy making body.

“The CWC meeting has no right to alter the decisions of the Mahasamiti meeting,” NC president of Mugu district Khadga Bahadur Sahi said, adding, “Hence, the statute was breached.” The Mahasamiti meeting should be called to decide on it.”

A CWC meeting of the Nepali Congress held on Sunday had passed the statute by a majority of votes.

During the Mahasamiti meeting, district presidents had demanded that the central committee members should be elected from the party's lower level and that the same candidate should not be elected twice through the proportional representation (PR) system.

Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba had agreed to the demand put forth by the district presidents.

The major opposition had held its Mahasamiti meeting in last December.
