The Day is being observed by organizing interactions and plantations in different places of the country.

The Day has been observed since August 1973 to keep the ecosystem balanced, maintain productive potentials of the land by reducing soil erosion and preserve infrastructure.

August 9 (Shrawan 24) has been observed as the 'Soil Conservation Day' as it also marks the establishment of the Department of Soil Conservation and Watershed Management.
