“Oli and the people’s multiparty democracy are poles apart”

KATHMANDU, March 23: Senior leader of the ruling CPN-UML, Madhav Kumar Nepal has tagged the party’s chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli as the Nepali version of Adolf Hilter.

Dissident leader Nepal’s statement comes at a time when the party leadership has asked him to furnish clarification over his ‘factional’ activities of late.  The party secretariat dispatched letters to four leaders of the party including Nepal, Bhim Rawal, Ghanashayam Bhusal and Surendra Pandey for ‘carrying out activities against the party’s interests’.

Nepal, who was addressing a national gathering of the students close to his faction in Kathmandu on Tuesday, said that Oli has been transforming himself into an autocratic leader like Hitler by accumulating all powers under him.

“He [Oli] has concentrated all power under him. He is turning himself into the Nepali version of Hitler,” Nepal said, adding that there is a ‘dire need’ to free the people and party cadres from the false publicity staged by the KP Oli-led group.

On the occasion, he also accused Oli of orienting toward the dissolution of the communist party. He added that Oli had failed to uphold the principles set by the Janatako Bahudaliaya Janabad (people's multiparty democracy), the guiding principle of the party, which was first introduced by Madan Bhandari. “Oli and the people’s multiparty democracy are poles apart,” said Nepal who used most of his speech to criticize Oli.

“People’s multiparty democracy means upholding the decision taken by the majority. Is he doing so? No. He is ignoring the majority.”
