Kaligandaki Corridor reopens after two-month blockage

BAGLUNG, Sept 27: Traffic on the Baglung section of the Kaligandaki Corridor, a national pride project, has resumed after being blocked for two months. The road had been completely cut off on July 24 due to a landslide in Baglung Municipality-10, Dablyang, which swept away the track.

Harihar Sharma, deputy mayor of Jaimini Municipality, reported that the road has been cleared and regular transportation services have resumed as of Friday. Despite repeated efforts by Baglung Municipality and the Kaligandaki Corridor Project to reopen the road, it remained blocked until now.

During the blockage, the Dablang-Kalakhola section was used as an alternative route. However, Deputy Mayor Sharma said that only light vehicles are currently permitted on this section.

According to Sharma, it took time to fully restore traffic on the washed-away road track. He said that larger buses will soon begin service from Baglung Bazar to Jaimini once the rainy season ends. Landslides have also caused prolonged closures on the Balewa, Kushmisera, and Bareng roads.

Raju Khadka, deputy mayor of Baglung Municipality, added that the Gandaki Province government has started constructing a bridge as an alternative solution to the landslide-affected area in southern Baglung.
