Injured Pilot Sedhai to be taken to India for further treatment

KATHMANDU, Oct 14: Pilot Prakash Sedhai, who sustained severe injuries in the Manang Air helicopter crash, is set to be transferred to India for advanced medical care.

Following the helicopter crash on Saturday morning during a flight from Lukla to Lobuche in Solukhumbu, Sedhai has been receiving treatment at Hams Hospital. In a statement released on Saturday evening, the hospital announced their readiness to facilitate his transfer to India's National Burn Center in Mumbai for further medical intervention.

The statement, signed by Dr. Sabin Koirala, mentioned, "In consultation with his family and the airline, preparations are underway to transfer him to India's National Burn Center, Mumbai for specialized treatment." The transfer is scheduled to occur on Saturday.

The statement also detailed the extent of Sedhai's injuries, noting that he is currently being treated with the assistance of a ventilator. His injuries encompass approximately 45 to 50 percent of his body, including his mouth and limbs, and have affected his lungs, spine, and kidneys. The hospital reported that debridement and escharotomy procedures have been performed on his body and hands.

The tragic helicopter crash, bearing the callsign '9N-ANJ,' occurred on Saturday morning as it was en route to rescue passengers at high altitudes. The only individual on board during the accident was Pilot Prakash Sedhai.
