Identities of 11 dead persons confirmed; 20 others are still missing

SINDHUPALCHOWK, Sept 13:The identities of all eleven dead bodies recovered from the landslide debris in Ghumthang village of Bahrabise Rural Municipality-7 in Sindhupalchowk district have been confirmed, according to Sindhupalchowk Police.

Spokesperson for the Sindhupalchowk District Police Office Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Prakash Sapkota said the whereabouts of 20 others, who went missing in the massive landslide, are yet to be traced. 

Those losing their lives in the tragic incident include Bhakti Maya Shrestha, 63, Tyakshe Sherpa, 98, Gyani Maya Pradhan, 42, Junu BK, 23, Shukra Lal BK, 24, Sandesh BK, 8,  Sarkini Newar, 60,  and Dhan Lal BK, 65. Hira Maya Newar, 42, Karna Bahadur Shrestha, 25,  and Sarswati BK, 5, are among those killed in the landslide.

Sindhupalchowk Police Chief, Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajan Adhikari said a joint team of Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force (APF) personnel has been mobilized in the incident site to search the missing persons. “We are also collecting details about the losses incurred due to the landslide,” said SP Adhikari.

Police said 11 houses--- seven of Nagpuje, two of Bhirkharka and two others of Newar village —were swept by the landslide.
