On occasion of Int'l Migrants Day, NHRC team visits TIA immigration

KATHMANDU, Dec 18: National Human Rights Commission has stated that Nepali youths going abroad in search of job opportunities get very little information about the nature of their jobs prior to their departure.

The human rights body said so in its findings after holding face-to-face interaction with some Nepali workers who were flying to various countries in search of job opportunities.

Coinciding with the International Migrants Day, the NHRC officials met them at the Tribhuvan International Airport immigration in the capital to enquire about their nature of jobs and several things associated with their jobs.

"The Nepali youths who go to foreign countries don't get the required information about their expected jobs. At the same time, they don't learn the required language. Moreover, they don't know the laws of the land," the NHRC said.

NHRC member Sudip Pathak shared that Nepali youths are forced to pay more than Rs 10,000 at the TIA immigration despite the introduction of free visa and free tickets system.

NHRC director Murahari Pokharel said that most of the Nepali youths don't get their contract papers when they start their work in the host countries.

"Most of the female employees don't even know about the nature of their works before going abroad in search of jobs," he said.

According to studies, around 15, 00 Nepali youths leave the country in search of job opportunities.
