HoR meeting today to discuss MCC compact agreement

KATHMANDU, Feb 25: A meeting of the House of Representatives is being held today to discuss the US aid project, MCC compact agreement.

A meeting called for Thursday to discuss the MCC agreement was postponed and was rescheduled for 1:00 PM today.

The ruling coalition has not been able to form a common ground regarding the project while the Nepali Congress President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has been reaching out to the main opposition party, the CPN- UML, to seek the latter’s support to ratify the MCC agreement through parliament.

The meeting held on Thursday evening between PM Deuba and UML Chairman KP Oli mainly dwelt on lifting the obstruction in parliament and ratifying the MCC grant agreement.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Deuba sought UML's support to ratify the MCC grant agreement.

Meanwhile, the ruling parties CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (Unified Socialist) have clarified that they will not vote in favor of the project in parliament.
