Gurjo distribution campaign gains momentum in Kathmandu Valley

KATHMANDU, Oct 3: While COVID-19 cases are spiking daily at an alarming rate, the campaign of distributing the gurjo (giloy) plant in the Kathmandu Valley has paced up in recent days.

Gurjo water is very much useful in combating COVID-19 as it helps in boosting the immune system of the consumer.

The campaigners have been distributing seedlings, gurjo powder, stems and tea free of cost as per the demand in the Valley.

According to Kamal Bahadur Rajlavat, chief officer at the Inland Revenue Office, Lahan, the campaign has been successful in distributing gurjo across the country without any cost.

The campaign has distributed more than 90,000 gurjo seedlings till date.

Patanjali Yoga Community and Chakrapath Sanitation Campaign (Western Section) have received more than 350 gurjo plants. Likewise, the Department of Political Science, Department of Geography and other two departments of Tribhuvan University have also received more than 400 seedlings.

Similarly, Mahalaxmi Municipality-1, Imadol, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-10 and Gokarneshwar Municipality have also received almost 1,000 seedlings of the gurjo plant. These plants are being planted on Saturday.

The campaigners aim to provide each house in the Kathmandu Valley with one gurjo plant through the campaign.

According to health experts, gurjo can be used for medication for diabetes, high blood pressure, common cold and many other diseases. However, consumption of gurjo is not recommended to pregnant women and children below five.
