PALHINANDAN, Oct 1: The flood victims of Susta Rural Municipality-5, Nawalparasi West, have returned home after the water receded. Around 200 houses were flooded when the Narayani River embankment collapsed due to continuous rainfall.

Armed Police Force Inspector Man Bahadur Khadak from the Susta Border Outpost (BOP) said the floodwaters began to subside on Sunday afternoon, allowing the affected residents to return home. The police post was also flooded.

Ward Chairman Prabhu Nath Ahir said that although locals have returned, many houses have sustained damage and are not fit to live in. Rabindra Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Susta Bachau Abhiyan, said that those who took shelter elsewhere returned home after the floodwaters receded.

“While those with concrete homes face fewer issues, residents with mud houses are struggling as their homes have been destroyed,” he said. He emphasized the need for government assistance to ensure proper arrangements for the victims.
