KATHMANDU, Nov 24: The Election Commission (EC) has directed Deputy Prime Minister Kamal Thapa to furnish clarification within 24 hours acting on a tip off that he had breached electoral code of conduct by wooing voters during the silent period.

The Election Code of Conduct Central Monitoring Committee decided to ask clarification from Thapa after he was found appealing to voters through social networking site Twitter during the silent period.

EC Spokesperson Nawaraj Dhakal informed that the carbon copy of the clarification was given to the Office of Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and Rastriya Prajatantra Party.

Thapa had used the social networking site as a tool for election publicity during the silent period in a breach of code of conduct of the elections to the House of Representatives and State Assemblies slated for November 26.

After the EC concern, DPM Thapa deleted his all tweets related to the election publicity. He tweets, 'After the EC concerns about code of conduct, and I deleted all my tweets related election campaign. I am already committed to comply with the code of conduct.'
