Dry port customs office collects Rs 8.39 billion in revenue

The dry port failed to meet the revenue collection target 

KATHMANDU, Sept 24: The Sirsiya Dry Port Customs Office in Birgunj has collected Rs 8.39 billion in revenue till mid-August to mid-September of the current fiscal year 2024/25.

The Department of Customs had set a revenue collection target of Rs 9.97 billion for the office by the end of the month of Bhadra (mid-August to mid-September) but the office has failed to meet this target.

In the month of Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August) of the current fiscal year, the office collected Rs 3.75 billion in revenue while it collected Rs 4.64 billion in revenue in the month of Bhadra (mid-August to mid-September) of the fiscal year

Dhan Bahadur Baruwal, the chief customs officer, said that the revenue collection in the first two months of the current fiscal year is encouraging.

Baruwal said that about 79.28 percent of the target set by the Department of Customs was met in Shrawan, while 88.50 percent of the target amount was collected in Bhadra.

The Department of Customs has given the office an annual target of collecting Rs 60.04 billion in revenue. The office has collected 13.98 percent of the annual revenue target in the first two months of the current fiscal year.

Baruwal said that the import of foreign made liquor has also increased, as the festivals like Dashain and Tihar are approaching. The office had collected Rs 8.65 billion  in revenue till Bhadra of the fiscal year 2023/24. Similarly, it has collected Rs 7.60 billion in revenue in Bhadra of the fiscal year 2022/23.
