China provides 27m Yuan for agricultural research

KATHMANDU, Dec 20: The Chinese government will be providing 27 million Chinese Yuan to Nepal to support research and expansion of modern technology in the country's agricultural sector.

Nepal and China signed a bilateral agreement toward this end on Wednesday.

The agreement was signed by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development of Nepal and Tibet International Economic Exchange Service Center operating under the Department of Commerce of China.

On behalf of the Nepali side, Yogendra Kumar Karki, chief of the ministry's planning department, signed on the agreement paper.

Under the agreement, the ministry will operate several projects in three districts of Nepal: Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Sindhupalchowk. Research on modern technology in the fields of potato farming, grass, broiler and layer chicken farming, mushroom, vegetables and rainbow trout fish farming will be conducted.

Starting on Wednesday, the program is slated to be completed in three years, or by December 18, 2021.

Under this project, 60 Nepalis including farmers and technical officials of the ministry will go to China to receive training on modern technology related to agriculture. Meanwhile, 240 Nepali farmers will receive similar training in Nepal.
