Chandragiri Mayor tests positive for COVID-19

KATHMANDU, May 26: Mayor of Chandragiri Municipality, Ghanshyam Giri has been diagnosed with the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). A PCR test conducted on Tuesday showed him infected with the virus. 

Mayor Giri was actively involved in providing services to the people in the municipality area after the outbreak of the second wave of COVID-19. Family sources said he is currently staying isolated at home. 

As many as 4,052 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Chandragiri Municipality, which is also the main entry point to Kathmandu. According to the municipality’s Spokesperson Hari Bhakta Maharjan, there are 909 active cases in Chandragiri while 3,099 have already recovered from the disease. So far, 46 people have succumbed to COVID-19 in the municipality area. 

The municipality constructed an isolation center with 75 beds after the second variant of COVID-19 was seen in Nepal along with other parts of the world. The COVID-19 infected patients in the municipality are also being treated at the Armed Police Force Hospital in Balambu. 

Chandragiri Municipality, which has 15 wards in total, is the largest municipality in the Kathmandu valley.
