Akshaya Tritiya being observed across country

KATHMANDU, April 18: Hindu devotees across the country are observing Akshaya Tritiya, a significant date in the Hindu lunar calendar on Wednesday.

Akshya Tritiya is known as the golden day of eternal success.Hindus celebrated the festival by having jauko saatu (a preparation from barley flour), and honey.

They visit Shiva temples in their respective localities throughout the country.

Akshaya Tritiya falls on the third day of the full moon of Baishakh month (mid-April to mid-May), according to the lunar calendar. It occurs only once a year when the Sun and the Moon are in exaltation simultaneously and at the peak of their brightness.

Thousands of people throng various temples and shrines including Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu, Dholeshwor Mahadev Temple, in Bhaktapur.

Hindus believe in auspicious timings in every step of life whether for beginning a new venture or making an important purchase.

Akshaya Tritiya is an occasion, considered most auspicious in the Hindu Calendar. It is believed, any meaningful activity started on this day will be fruitful.
