2 Nepali women arrested in Lebanon on spying charge

KATHMANDU, Jan 26: Two Nepali women are among the five people arrested in Beirut by Lebanon's General Security Department on the charge of spying for Israel.
 
The General Security Directorate confirmed in a press statement on Thursday the arrest of a Lebanese, a Palestinian and two Nepali nationals on the charge of spying for Israel, reported almanar.com, a Labanese media outlet

 "… after careful and intensive follow-up, and building on the signal of the relevant public prosecutor, the General Directorate of General Security arrested two Lebanese … as well as a Palestinian refugee in Lebanon …and two Nepalese women … on the offense of spying in favor of embassies of the Israeli enemy abroad," the news portal quoted the statement as saying.

According to the statement, the investigations revealed that the two arrested Nepalis were active in recruiting domestic workers, from the Nepalese community in Lebanon, for Israel. They would providing them with the phone number of the Israeli Embassy in Nepal.

The statement claimed that all the arrested persons confessed to the crime during interrogation and admitted that they had contacted the embassies of Israel in Turkey, Jordan, Britain and Nepal via phone. The arrested individuals are referred to the court after their interrogation for further proceedings.
